Making it possible for our Canadian members to connect with international markets is a high priority for our Global Programs team. The Asian markets in particular are on the rise and bring with them very different trends than are seen in North America and Europe. Canadian products are known to be of excellent quality and in high demand in these regions, which makes them a great area of potential for members.
In the last two weeks we have had meeting at the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei. Joined with our members Big Country Pet & Big Air Foods we learned about Taiwan’s market trends and regulatory overview process as well as the country’s Agri-food food market and opportunities for pet food exporters. The presentations by CPFAA and Canadian Trade Office provided a deeper knowledge of how members can do business with Taiwan.
Our next stop was the Canadian Embassy in South Korea. Along with our members from Big Country Pet and COEVO we met with Canadian Trade Commissioners along with in-country representatives from B.C. and Alberta for presentations from the Korean Pet Food Association and the Megazoo Pet Show (South Korea). We were provided with a deeper understanding of the market and what key opportunities are available to Canadian companies looking to expand their business in this part of the world.
The final destination is the Interpets show in Tokyo, where we are hosting a Canadian Pavilion over the next 3 days with Pets Canada members The Butcher’s Companion, Hurraw, Mackenzie Pet Food, FirstMate Pet Foods and Nutram Pet Products.
As the trade landscape is rapidly changing, it is critical for our members to be able to engage new markets to develop diverse connections which will help keep their businesses strong. Our trade missions and Canadian pavilions provide the opportunity for our members to achieve this, which in turn helps to keep the Canadian pet sector strong.
