The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has achieved a milestone in the fight against invasive species by finalizing regulatory amendments to Ontario Regulation 354/16 under the Invasive Species Act, 2015. This move designates 10 species and four genera as either prohibited or restricted invasive species, signaling a significant step towards their containment. Starting January 1, 2024, these regulatory changes not only bolster Ontario’s preventive measures but also impose a ban on the sale of these invasive species within the province, aligning with similar restrictions in place across many other Canadian provinces.

Pets Canada, in collaboration with the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, has actively supported this initiative to curb the introduction and spread of invasive species. The organization’s efforts aim not only to halt these invasions but also to minimize the impact on its members. Through this joint effort, there’s a collective commitment to preserving Ontario’s ecosystems and safeguarding the well-being of its residents.
