Help us recognize pet businesses as essential services, remove tax from pet food and include pets in emergency evacuation planning

Pets Canada is leading advocacy efforts to improve the lives of pets and their owners in Ontario. We’re calling on the government of Ontario to eliminate the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on pet food, recognizing its essential role in pet care. The cost burden of this tax restricts access to proper pet nutrition, affecting both pet parents and the already strained veterinary and shelter systems. By removing this barrier, we can enhance pet health and happiness. It has been proven that pet ownership results in healthier pet parents therefore reducing the strain on healthcare systems.

Pets Canada is also urging the Ontario government to expand provisions for pet safety during emergencies, including funding for evacuation and relocation measures to protect pets and provide vital support to their owners. By ensuring funding for their emergency evacuation, we can prevent heart-wrenching choices and bolster community resilience. Additionally, Pets Canada is requesting that Ontario recognizes pet businesses as an essential service Ontarians and their pets depend on, as it is throughout North America.
