“Our commitment to our customers has always been our priority.”
As part of our ongoing commitment to quality and safety, we have initiated a voluntary recall to all our retailers on some potentially affected products out of an abundance of caution due to a possible Salmonella contamination.
Why Was a Public Health Notice Issued?
This notice was issued because people, not dogs, may have become sick. Dogs almost always have some level of salmonella naturally in their system. Thirty-one people have been reported ill, six of whom had Puppy Love in their homes and of those six, two could potentially be linked to our products.
It’s important to remember that all pet-intended products carry risk and to always be practicing safe handling when feeding any pet products, just like you would with any meat products in your own kitchen.
This type of investigation is based on correlation which does not always equal causation.
What This Means for You?
The focus of this Health Notice is human safety due to improper handling—not the health of dogs, and not the integrity of Puppy Love’s entire line.
In our 16 years of operation, this marks the first reported instance involving a potential concern. We employ over 30 people with no reports of illness from individuals who handle our products every single day. Since the beginning our goals have stayed the same, to provide a competitive, all-natural,100% Canadian solution. In addition to working closely with our retail partners, we work diligently to support our pet community through initiatives such as sponsoring our local off leash dog park, local events, sports teams, fundraising initiatives, and donating to over 133 rescues across Canada.
From the start, we’ve listened to our customers by continually developing and improving our products. Our determination is that this will continue to be our focus. Our sincere thanks go out to those who have supported our products from the very beginning and who continue to show support. Our journey to date has been both rewarding and inspiring, and we look forward to fostering continued collaboration and lasting relationships.
We are working closely with Health Canada on their timeline to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to protect pets and their families. We have proactively conducted an internal review of our manufacturing and testing procedures and made the necessary adjustments to provide assurance and further strengthen our safety protocols.
We are proud of Puppy Love and what we’ve been able to accomplish for the Canadian market. We are focused on improvement and are confident we can continue to provide Canadians with a safe reliable option for their pets. If you have any questions about safe handling please reach out to us or consult our safe handling tab on our website!”
